PostHumous Celebration For The "Democracy Day Man"; Chief MKO Abiola Continues

As we are all aware of the incident that lead to the Celebration and Declaration of the New Democracy Day,a date Each & Every Nigerians have been anticipating for a very long time after the Freest and Fairest election so far in Nigeria have been declared "Null & Void" by Gen.Ibrahim Babaginda who was the Military Head then (and still alive now to witness the Reign of "The New Democracy" in Nigeria) and sets an indelible record in the history of Nigeria.

It's no longer news that the election which was held on 12th of June,1993 where over 14 million Nigerians cast their votes for Abiola in the election and witnessed by observers from all over the world, and with an obvious marginal number of lead as released by Professor Humphrey Nwosu who was the National Electoral Commission (NEC)'s head then.

Chief M.K.O Abiola,a native of Abeokuta in Ogun state was born on the 24th of August 1937 to the family of Salawu & Suliat Wuraola Abiola, the 23rd child born but the only child to survive infancy hence the reason for the name 'Kashimawo;Let's Us Wait and See" before being named 'Moshood' at the age of 15.He was a well-known business mogul and a Success in all his businesses which cuts across publishing, media, oil and gas,sports/Football.He Studied Accountancy and qualifies as a Chartered Accountant under a government scholarship in 1960 before becoming a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria(ICAN).

The Election process was thereafter truncated and Gen Ibrahim Babaginda petitioned the High court to stop the process and the announcement of the election results was postponed on the 16th of June 1993 and on the 23rd of June,1993,he announced the "Annulment" of the Presidential Election.

This action by Gen Ibrahim Babaginda led to series of actions by Nigerians and Protests was held in every nook and cranny of the country then where protesters barricaded major streets and made bonfires from disused tyres and attempts by the government to arrange another election Failed.

On August 26,1993,Gen Ibrahim Babaginda then decided to 'step aside' from power after widespread agitation for the de-annulment of the election.

And Precisely on June 11,1994,the 'eve' of the First Anniversary of the annulment,MKO Abiola then declares himself "President" at Epetedo area in Central Lagos and was popularly known as "Epetedo Declaration" then.

On the 3rd of July,1994,Chief MKO Abiola was arrested and detained by General Sanni Abacha where he spent 4 years and 14 days in detention and on July 7,1998,the set date for his release, his death was declared which was a controversy death-record up till date where it was recorded that he collapsed and died of heart failure during a visit from a U.S delegation while a close source to the prison quarters revealed that he was beaten and paralyzed to death by the Army officials but his death has been the "Liberation Point" for the new democracy we have today in Nigeria.

It would be noted that on the 12th of June,2019,Rtd Gen Muhammadu Buhari declared the "Election Annulment Day" "DEMOCRACY DAY" as reviewed to the previous 'May 29' date and a Posthumous honour given to the late "Unsweared-in" Democratic President of Nigeria in 1993: ''GCFR'',an honour that has since then been recognised to the late Business Mogul's name.

This year marking the "22nd" Posthumous Anniversary,Honours and Recognition have been made to the 'Date' of the demise of the Proactive Human right activist who died 22 years ago and a Democratic celebration therefore is what we seeing today commemorating the day of the demise of a Great Man.

His death; a True legacy for the "New Democracy Day"; June 12.What a day for a change in the history of the country's running.

Thank You.
